#Showbiz: I Can See Your Voice Malaysia returns

IT is inevitable that musical show I Can See Your Voice Malaysia is returning for its second season after the success of its inaugural season.

Based on popular South Korean show I Can See Your Voice, it recorded a good response from Malaysian TV audiences when it premiered in August last year. It trended on digital platforms.

Media Prima Television Networks’ chief executive officer Johan Ishak says: “When we first came up with the programme in Malay last year, response from local TV viewers was very encouraging.

“What is even more exciting is that the show became hotly discussed and trended on the YouTube channel. Thus, it’s only inevitable that TV3 goes ahead with the second season of the show.”

Johan adds that this programme stands out because it allows individuals who are interested in showbusiness but lack experience to get their 15 minutes of fame on national TV.

“Even those who cannot sing get their chance to be under the bright lights. What is important is for them to be confident in front of the camera,” he says.

Unlike other talent shows, this programme will push contestants’ creativity to “fool” the audience when they are onstage as “mysterious” singers. While some have a natural flair for singing, two-thirds of the mysterious singers are impostors — those who can’t sing at all.

"Unlike the inaugural season, it was a breeze auditioning people this time," says show’s producer and director Lucent Chong Kien Wen.

“I suppose people already know the concept of this show. Those who came for the audition knew what they were in for as opposed to the previous season’s audition,” he says, hopeful that this season will attract even more TV viewers.

The mysterious singers will lip sync and the weekly guest artiste will have to determine who will be booted out as the impostor. To help the guest artiste, the three permanent and two guest investigators will help defend each of the mysterious singers, since they have the privilege to listen to the recording of the mysterious singers’ real vocals.

For this season, Shuk Sahar will be hosting the show with actor Sean Lee a.k.a. Sean L.J.E.

For Lee, 24, there’s no question of him stealing the job from Shuk’s previous co-host, actor Alvin Chong.

“We’re friends. And I don’t think by replacing him on this show, it’d make us enemies,” says Lee.

Lee has acted in several Malay drama series and telemovies for sometime, with the first being Keluarga Pontimau, which was aired on TV3 in 2015.

“In the beginning, I was both excited and nervous as this is my first time live-hosting a TV show.

“But as we progressed, it became easier, thanks to the support and encouragement from my colleagues,” he shares.

Although his grasp of Malay is not excellent, Lee is not worried as he will brush up on his command of the language.

“Thanks to guidance from the others, especially Shuk, I think I did okay,” says the Subang Jaya resident who wants to create more content for his YouTube channel this year.

Meanwhile, Jihan Muse, Mark Adam and Seelan Paul will reprise their roles as the show’s permanent investigators.

The celebrities who will appear include Hael Husaini, Khai Bahar, Nabila Razali, Datin Alyah, Syamel, Siti Sarah, Floor 88, Haqiem Rusli, Ella, Ajai, Sam (Bunkface), Mas Idayu, Misha Omar, Ara Johari, Andi Bernadee and Luqman Faiz.

The second season of I Can See Your Voice Malaysia is brought together by Oppo as its co-sponsor and will premiere on TV3 on Sunday.

The one-and-a-half hour show will air every Sunday at 9pm for 13 episodes.

The show can also be viewed via live-streaming on tonton and YouTube TV3 Malaysia Official. Details at www.xtra.com.my. Follow the official social media account of @tv3malaysia.
