#Showbiz: Depression leads ex-Wanna One's Daniel Kang to quit K-Pop indefinitely

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular South Korean K-Pop star Daniel Kang will be taking a break from show business to rest and recover.

According to Koreaboo, the 22-year-old singer was previously rumoured to be suffering from depression.

His agency, Konnect Entertainment, recently released an official statement that detailed Kang’s health concerns and what the company plans to do for him.

It also made a request for everyone to not indulge in speculations or rumours with regards to Kang’s health and future activities. The statement read: “In the first half of this year, Kang Daniel was diagnosed with depression and panic disorder after undergoing a thorough examination. The examination stemmed from the frequent deterioration of his health, his low immunity levels, and him feeling psychological anxiety symptoms. Since then, we have been working with him on therapy through psychotherapy and medications.”

“Despite his medical situation, Kang Daniel tried his best not to be influenced by the turbulent environment he works in, but he recently complained of even more intense anxiety, and we have come to the conclusion that the top priority for our artiste’s health and stability is ample rest and recovery.”

“As a result, the pre-recording for MBC Music ‘Show Champion’ that was scheduled for today was cancelled, and he will not be able to carry out his scheduled promotional activities, as in reality, it is very difficult for him to continue promoting Touchin right now.”

“We are very sorry to have caused concern to everyone, from the fans to the broadcasting companies and the media. We will do everything in our power to help Kang Daniel recover his health, and we will take responsibility as an agency to protect our artiste.”

“In addition, we would like to ask everyone to refrain from excessive speculations or misunderstandings regarding Kang Daniel’s health and future activities. We will prepare a method to let you know about his recovery process as it goes on. We are sorry for delivering such bad news. Please continue to send your support to Kang Daniel until he is able to greet everyone again.”

Recently, Kang posted messages online relating how afraid and tired he was due to the continuous barrage of malicious comments targeted at him.

The former member of K-Pop group Wanna One was in Malaysia three months ago for a concert and fan meet. Kang’s event here was in conjunction with the release of his debut mini album, Color On Me, which marked his start as a solo singer.
