KUALA LUMPUR: Rio Olympic silver medallists Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying have shocked the badminton fraternity by quitting the national team.

In a statement released on Sunday, the BA of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed that the World No 6 handed their resignation letter on Nov 29.

"After discussing with various stakeholders, BAM have accepted their resignation, affective Jan 1.

"BAM would like to place on record our sincere thanks and appreciation to the 2016 Olympics silver medallists who were also instrumental in the development and growth of the mixed doubles event in Malaysia.

"BAM wish them all the best in their future undertakings," read the statement.

The BWF World Tour in Guangzhou, China this week was the last competition for Peng Soon-Liu Ying under the national body.

The failed to reach the semi-finals after recording only one win from three matches in the group stage.
