KUALA LUMPUR: People may be running away from Wuhan but there is no move yet to postpone a major badminton tournament scheduled in the Chinese city.
In a statement today, Badminton Asia said Wuhan will host their flagship event, the Badminton Asia Championships on April 21-26.
“Badminton Asia at this juncture will proceed with the Badminton Asia Championships 2020 in Wuhan, China, from April 21-26 as this tournament awards Olympic points, which will be of benefit to players for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo,” said the statement.
“Badminton Asia and BWF will monitor closely the development and situation of the virus, with hopes of the situation getting better.
“Badminton Asia will have a contingency plan to have other cities ready to host the tournament within or outside of China.”
