GEORGETOWN: Murmurs that FA of Penang (FAP) president Datuk Tahir Jalaluddin Hussain has resigned has become a hot topic of discussion and speculation in local footballing circles.
However, what is actually happening within FAP is still very much unknown as prior to this, Tahir had publically vowed to give his full commitment and attention in addressing all the issues and problems plaguing the team as well as taking Penang football to greater heights.
There are those who have speculated that financial problems could be the root of the problem, but the issue of players’ salary arrears is no longer a lingering problem as the state government has agreed to provide assistance in resolving the matter only last week.
At present, there has been no official statement made, though it is understood that Tahir’s letter of resignation was sent to Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng’s office yesterday evening (Tuesday).
It is also understood that news regarding Tahir’s resignation came to light through FAP’s social media channel, ‘Biru Putih Kuning Selamanya’ (Forever Blue, White and Yellow). Penang fans are also beginning to wonder as to what is actually going on with the upper echelons of the state football association.
The real reason behind Tahir’s resignation is still unknown as when contacted, FAP representatives declined to comment on the matter until an official statement is made sometime in the near future.
For the record, Tahir was appointed as FAP president during the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) ON January 16.
Prior to this, Tahir was a Penang City Council member since 2013, and also held the post of vice president of the Penang Malays Association (PEMENANG).
