SHAH ALAM: Thailand's Bangkok United defeated Selangor 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regulation time to win the Asia Challenge at the Shah Alam Stadium here, on Sunday night.

Both teams struggled to play their normal game on the soggy pitch.

The third-place match between Indonesia's Persib Bandung and Vietnam's Hanoi FC was called off after the first half, with the former leading 2-0, due to heavy rain.

In the final, Selangor's best chance arrived in the fourth minute when Nigeria's Ifedayo Olusegun managed to break into the Persib defence, only to shoot wide.

Vander Luis Silva, Tristan Do, Manuel Tombi and Pokklaw A-nan converted from the spot for Bangkok United, while Olusegun and Sean Eugene Selvaraj scored for Selangor with Zahril Azri Zabri and Abdul Halim Shaari failing to make their attempts count.

The Thai side earned US$10,000 (RM40,520) for their effort.
