KUALA LUMPUR: It is not exactly a ‘shortlist’ of Malaysia’s women’s rhythmic gymnasts for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) today announced seven names, with the final three to be decided end of the month. And their target is the team gold.

The seven gymnasts listed are Koi Sie Yan, Amy Kwan Dict Weng, Izzah Amzan, N. Shansangari Sivanesawary, Chong Lok Yi, Tammy Ng Jia Wen and Nur Naieme Zainul Ariffin.

MGF vice president Petrina Low said today: “I would like to name a long list because we will only identify the top three at the end of this month.

“I prefer to give the long list because this will be out (to the public) and it’s only fair we give all (the names) because we haven’t decided on the top three girls,” added Petrina, who is also the rhythmic gymnastics technical chairman.

Meanwhile, the two men selected for Malaysia’s Commonwealth Games challenge in artistic gymnastics are Sea Games gold medallists Tan Fu Jie and Jeremiah Loo Phay Xing.

Last month, it was announced that Sea Games champions Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and Tan Ing Yueh as well as silver medallist Tracie Ang will represent the country but MGF are still looking for a fourth gymnast.

Malaysia, represented by nine gymnasts, will compete in three disciplines: men’s artistic, women’s artistic and women’s rhythmic at the Commonwealth Games.
