PATTANI: Two civilians and a policeman were shot dead on two incidents, in Pattani and Narathiwat, southern Thailand in the last 24 hours.

Pattani police chief Mej Gen Piyawat Chalermsi said the first incident happened at 11.50am ( local time) when a group of five villagers were shot at by unknown gunmen while they were out hunting in Kampung Tolang, Yaring.

“Two of the villagers, aged 18 and 19 years, were killed while the other three escaped,” he told reporters here today.

In the other incident at 7pm (local time) in Weng, Narathiwat, a policeman was shot dead by four men who were on two motorcycles.

Weng CID chief Capt Kraisorn Luenum said the victim was on sentry duty at the Weng police station when he was shot and that the gunmen had used M-16 assault rifles. -- BERNAMA
