THE towering, grey concrete wall in Jalan Pengkalan Rinting, Tampoi, is riddled with cracks and some parts are damaged.

The 200-metre-long wall stretches from the government housing quarters below the Angsana flyover to the Tampoi police station in Jalan Pengkalan Rinting.

A Kampung Pasir resident, identified only as Ahmad, claimed that the wall was a soundproof barrier against traffic noise in the busy Skudai highway.

“The wall is riddled with large cracks and broken parts. I hope the authorities will carry out repair work before it gets worse.”

ACTIONLINE:

The Johor Baru district engineering office, which is responsible for maintenance of the soundproof wall, says that repairs will be done as soon as possible.

A spokesman said the 2-metre-high wall was built using glass reinforced concrete material, which made it sturdy.

“An assessment report will be submitted by the contractor appointed to do maintenance along the wall perimeter.”

He said as the soundproof wall was built on a federal road, the report would include physical assessment of the structure, damage and repair solutions before a budget proposal was forwarded to the Federal Government for approval.
