KUALA LUMPUR: New vehicles sales was 4.4 per cent, or 1,877 units lower to 40,578 units for February than 42,455 units recorded in the same month last year.

On a month-on-month basis, sales volume was nine per cent or 3,997 units lower than January 2018.

In a statement, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said the lower sales volume recorded for the month was due to short working month due to Chinese New Year festive holidays.

For the two months period of 2018, sales volume dropped 2.3 per cent to 85,153 units from 87,122 units recorded in the same period a year ago.

On production, volumes dropped 10.9 per cent to 38,416 units in February 2018 from 43,127 units recorded in February 2017.

Year to date, production volume increased 20 per cent to 106,418 units from 88,659 units.

MAA said sales volume for March 2018 is expected to be slightly better than Fenruary 2018 due to longer working month and rush for deliveries by companies having their financial year ending March 31, 2018.
