KAWASAKI Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (KMSB) launched its third Kawasaki Road Safety Campaign, themed “Think Safety, Ride Responsibly” at Sungai Besi Toll Plaza on Thursday.

The programme is aimed at reducing accident and fatality rates during the Chinese New Year period.

The event was launched by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

“From 2007 to 2016, the majority of fatal accidents involved motorcycles, at 63 per cent, while 80 per cent of the accidents were caused by negligence on the part of the riders themselves,” he said.

During the one-day programme, Kawasaki offered free 16-point checks by their technicians for all motorcycles . It also handed out free reflector jackets while an exchange counter for new helmets was set up.

The event was supported by the Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA), Malaysian Highway Authority and Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (PLUS).

Among the agencies involved were the Works Ministry, Road Transport Department, police, Malaysian Institute for Research on Road Safety and Road Safety Department.
