With lifestyle brands riding high on personalisation, a local jewellery label ups the ante with its made-to-order nameplate pieces, writes Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan.

PERSONALISATION and fashion has had a very long and stable relationship. Back in the days of sea and carriage travels, aristocrats packed their belongings in leather trunks stamped with their initials. French brands Louis Vuitton and Goyard carved their names in this.

Sometime in 2009, Louis Vuitton introduced Mon Monogram for many of its Monogram Canvas carriers and small leather goods—the Speedy was very popular and I still have my Neverfull Mon Monogram with fuchsia stripes running down, my initial emblazoned on the canvas.

Christian Dior’s monogram tote is super-popular now, everyone who’s anyone seems to be toting it around, whether with Christian Dior or their names printed on it.

So big is personalisation that even canvas tote bags come with this service, which is cool, because who’s to say that only expensive bags can be imprinted with your name?


To start the new decade, local jewellery brand Wanderlust + Co. kicked off its own personalisation line—upping its metal to gold and allowing customers to customise their necklaces with three fonts and choosing their own chain.

 To extend this personalisation service, this series features a selection of base options in sterling silver, gold vermeil and 14K gold. You can then customise your nameplate piece with the choice of four chain styles, three fonts, three emoji symbols and up to nine characters in your initials, name or favourite mantra.


Each piece in the collection is made to order and hand-crafted by the brand’s jewellery artisans, resulting in no waste. By working with trusted artisans on demand, the brand is also able to successfully reduce energy consumption, lower the impact of production and shorten manufacturing lead time to bring personalised jewelry to life sustainably, in just 10 days.
