PUTRAJAYA: A 10-year old girl captivated the crowd at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's Hari Raya Open House with her live singing performance at Seri Perdana here today.
Mawar Irdyna Mahzal Nazrin, who began singing at at age seven, wowed the guests by belting out several popular Malay songs, including Farahdhiya's 'Bertakhta di Hati'.
Her solo rendition caught the attention of hundreds of people, who gathered in front of the stage to record her act with their mobile phones.
“I felt nervous performing in front of such a large crowd. (To calm myself down), I thought about visiting my grandparents in Batu Pahat,” she told the New Straits Times after her performance.
She was selected from a group of more than 80 students from the Permata Seni Choir to perform at the prime minister’s open house.
Permata Seni is one the many children's development programmes under Permata, which the brainchild of the prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor. Rosmah is also its patron.
Mawar Irdyna’s parents, who were present, said they were delighted by their daughter's performance.
Her mother, Fazli Hani Saat, said her daughter had only one week to memorise the lyrics of the four songs she had to sing.
“We are so proud of her. She gave her best and enthralled the audience with her melodious voice,” she said.
