KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Sharnaaz Ahmad and his wife Noor Nabila Mohd Noor have been instructed by the Kuala Lumpur Lower Syariah Court to appoint a conciliatory committee (jawatankuasa pendamai – JKP) representative for their divorce case.

According to a news report today, Judge Syarie Ahmad Muttaqi Ismail had ordered Sharnaaz, whose real name is Sharnaaz Ahmad Bazir Ahmad, 34, and Noor Nabila, 34, to carry out the procedure after the actor refused a request for divorce from his wife, who is the elder sister of popular host, actress and successful entrepreneur, Neelofa.

Noor Nabila as the plaintiff filed a request for divorce on Aug 27 following Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territory) Act 1984.

The process will involve the JKP consulting with close family members of the couple for advice with the aim of coming to an amicable solution to the situation.

During the earlier proceeding, Sharnaaz, who was represented by lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, was asked by the judge whether the Juvana star had seen the request that he received from Noor Nabila on Aug 29 Ogos.

He replied, “Yes,” but did not agree to the request for a divorce. Aside from irreconcilable differences and the two living separately since February 2018, Noor Nabila added in her divorce request that Sharnaaz’s “nafkah zahir” payment was insufficient at only RM500 a month despite him being able to afford to provide more than that amount.

Noor Nabila also included in her request that a series of steps had already been taken with the aim of reaching a peaceful agreement, including discussions, but no decisive solution was forthcoming. Discussions had also been carried out between their families but to no avail.

Syariah lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais who represented Noor Nabila then made a request for Sharnaaz, as the defendant, to express his reasons (for refusing) since he was alleged to have stated otherwise via his social media postings.

But Ahmad Muttaqi rebutted that the defendant did not need to do so (express reasons) since the court had already queried Sharnaaz on the matter during the proceeding.

The court then set Sept 30 as the date for the couple to appoint their respective JKP representatives.

The public had got wind that the couple was having relationship troubles when a portal published an article alleging that Noor Nabila had filed for a divorce from Sharnaaz, after sharing a photo believed to be the Federal Territory Syariah Court complex in a recent Instagram Story.

Noor Nabila was alleged to have uploaded her status that cemented speculations that she was experiencing serious marital problems.

Sharnaaz and Noor Nabila tied the knot on March 31 in 2017 and have a 12-month-old boy together named Jebat Jayden Ahmad.
