From hiking trails to boarding the railway, Taiwan has something for everyone

TAIWAN, one of the most densely-populated countries in the world, is known for its mountains and forests for those who love nature.

Some of the places are Insta-worthy too. Taiwan Tourism ambassador and celebrity Mira Filzah shares her five favourite places in the country.

Also in Chiayi County is the Alishan Forest Railway. Mira loves the old-school train design. She is content to sit back and enjoy the scenery. She plans to come here again to experience the cherry blossom in spring.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Mira recommends making a trip to Alishan Forest Trail in Chiayi County. Even though it is a distance from Taipei, it is worth the travel. She’s in awe of the view and cannot stop taking photos. There is an amazing hiking trail that holds thousand of years of history.

In Taichung, Mira embarks on a cycling adventure exploring the Gaomei Protection Area with Gaomei Wetland Bikeway.

About 3km long, and with beautiful coastal scenery and rich ecology, it has become a popular bird-watching site. It is a good place to enjoy great scenery and fresh air while cycling along the coastline. Mira and her friend bask in the beautiful sunset and take lots of photos together. There are fun activities for adults and children.

Located in Zhongxing First Lane, it is a hidden gem in Taichung. Fantasy story is a revitalisation effort carried out on 12 old dormitories of the water corporation. It has an eclectic mix of shops, ranging from restaurants to boutiques, design stores, perfumeries and leather workshops. It is a great location for your Instagram feed and to buy souvenirs.

Mira buys a lot of knick-knacks here. If you are a coffee lover like Mira, you will be pleased to know there are many hip and quirky cafes here, each with stunning views.

Another Instagram-worthy attraction in Taichung is the Zhongshe Flower Market, where you can feast your eyes on an explosion of beautiful colours, thanks to the huge flower fields.

Mira recommends this place for honeymooners. There is a romantic air about the setting, complemented with picturesque props, such as water features, musical instruments, flower arches and life-sized photo frames. You can buy flowers to accompany you on the rest of your trip in Taiwan.

Fun facts: Mira’s favourite flower is red rose. What’s yours?
