A more muscular Zizan Razak will soon be back in action in Polis Evo 2 as he has been working out almost every day since last month.

However, details on the sequel to the 2015 comedy-drama Polis Evo are under wraps. For now, fans only know that it will have more action and wit than its prequel, which raked in a record of RM17.47 million at the box office.

The actor’s fast-talking character, Inspector Sani, and his no-nonsense friend Inspector Khai, played by Shaheizy Sam, will face ruthless villains again in the sequel slated for release by year end.

Producer Joel Soh takes over the director’s chair from Ghaz Bakar.

Marking his directorial debut, Soh, who is one of the screenwriters, said: “Shaheizy and Zizan played Khai the ‘super cop’ and Sani the ‘funny cop’ perfectly. Their traits complement each other and their friendship translates into superb teamwork. Viewers loved them in the first movie, so we decided to bring them back for a second adventure.”

An audition for roles was held from Jan 28 to Feb 1 at Taman Ukay Perdana in Ampang, with more than 1,500 people auditioning. Closed-door auditions are on-going.

Polis Evo 2 is the third team-up for Shaheizy and Zizan after Polis Evo and Rembat.

Soh did not reveal much of the film as its screenplay is not finalised. But, he hinted that the duo would have to accomplish a dangerous mission.

“They will be facing criminals who operate around the country, and their courage and resourcefulness will make fans root for them.”

In the prequel, Kuala Lumpur-based Khai and Kuala Terengganu-based Sani teamed up to bust a notorious drug smuggling syndicate headed by kingpin Izrail, played by Hushairi Hussain.

Polis Evo won Best Box Office Film, Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor (Hushairi) and the Special Jury Award at the 28th Malaysian Film Festival last year.

The Jury Award was awarded for promoting the noble yet dangerous work that police officers have to face in protecting the nation.
