KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized explosive items, diving equipment and several kilograms of fish that were caught illegally off Sapi island here.

Kota Kinabalu Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director, First Admiral Adam Aziz said a pump boat was also confiscated in the 9.15pm operation last night.

MMEA personnel had spotted a suspicious pump boat at 0.2 nautical miles from Pulau Sapi and as they approached it, the boat immediately sped off towards the island.

“A few men were seen jumping into the water before running towards the island,” Adam said in a statement.

Seized items were brought to MMEA jetty in Sepanggar for further investigation under the Fisheries Act 1985.
