IPOH: A 34-year-old man, who is believed to be suffering from mental illness, surrendered himself to the police for allegedly murdering an Indonesian woman in Bercham.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the man arrived at the Bercham police station at 3.30pm, claiming that he had killed the woman, in her 40s, at his parents' home in Kampung Tersusun Tasik, Bercham.
"He informed the policemen on duty at the station that he had killed the woman who had come to clean the house at about 3pm.
"A team was dispatched to the scene and the bloodied body of a woman was found, fully-clothed, lying on the floor.
"Initial checks revealed injuries on the woman's face and her back. Three fingers were also cut, using a sharp weapon, which we believed is a parang found outside the house," he told reporters at the scene.
He said based on information gathered from the man's family members, it was learnt that the man was mentally ill.
"We will verify this through health checks on the man," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
