SUNGAI PETANI: Police have arrested a man in his 20s to facilitate investigation into the murder of a man at one of the back alleys in Taman Arked yesterday.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Saifi Abdul Hamid said the man from Penang was picked up last night, several hours after the incident.

He said police have obtained a three-day remand on the man today.

“The man was detained at 8.30pm last night in Sungai Petani. He is the owner of the car which was on fire behind some bushes not far from where the victim’s body was found,” he said in a statement.

He said police hoped the man could shed some light into the case which is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

It was reported that a 25-year-old man was found dead with a stab wound in his chest behind a house in Taman Arked.

A car believed to have been used by the man, known as Liu Chee Wee, was also torched behind some bushes about 1km from the body.

In the 3pm incident, a passer-by who noticed the man crying out in pain had alerted the police.

However, the man was already dead when police arrived at the scene minutes later.
