LAHAD DATU: Three Indonesian fishermen were believed to have been kidnapped by seven armed men off Tambisan waters here.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said during the incident at about 11.50am, the fishermen, aged between 27 and 48, were catching prawns.
There were two fishing boats which were just about 50 metres from each other at the location.
"All of a sudden, two boats with seven armed men appeared.
"A boat with four armed men went up to a fishing boat with four crew members and took their hand phones. The fishermen were unharmed.
"Meanwhile, the other pump boat with three armed men went to the other boat with the three victims. The armed men then directed the fishing boat to head out of our waters," he said when contacted today.
Omar added that there were also other witnesses who made emergency call to the marine police about the incident.
"However, when the boat was found, the three fishermen were no longer there. For now, there is no information from the Philippines' security authority," he added.
The three victims have been identified as Maharudi Lunani, 48, Muhammad Farhan, 27, and Samiun Maneu, 27.
