KUALA LUMPUR: The Bumiputera Empowerment Agenda will become a national agenda via the Bumiputera Well-being Transformation Policy, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.
He said bumiputeras now make up close to 70 per cent of the total 32 million population.
"Since 2009, many initiatives to empower the bumiputera economy have been implemented and this will continue.
"For example, the Carve Out and Compete initiative has achieved a contract value of more than RM61 billion.
Also, RM1.7 billion for the Dana Mudahcara has been approved for 515 projects, creating more than 44,000 jobs.
“We are proud of this programme which proves that bumiputera contractors are becoming more competitive and skilled, even able to complete projects ahead of schedule without compromising quality,” he said.
From another angle, via the Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera, close to 17,000 professional talent have successfully been groomed in fields that included accounting and engineering.
Apart from that, RM2.4 billion is being allocated for Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), with the government increasing the number of UiTM students intake to more than 165 million, targeting 250,000 students come 2020.
UiTM, he added, has successfully churned out more than 700,000 Malay and Bumiputera graduates.
