LANGKAWI: Langkawi Hospital made history with the introduction of its first Medical Evacuation Service (MedEvac) or air ambulance, for patients on the island.
State Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail, in a Facebook posting today, said the service will reduce travelling time for patients and medical officers during emergency cases from the island to other parts of the country.
"It will help expedite various cases, when the special medical attention required isn't available in Langkawi.
"These include transferring patients from Langkawi island to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Penang Hospital or other hospitals in the country," he wrote.
He said the service is also in line with Langkawi's status as an international tourist destination.
Dr Norhizan said the department would continue to improve the medical services provided in the state.
