KUALA KANGSAR: The fire that gutted three Road Transport Department Department (RTD) and two civilian vehicles here this morning may have been an act of arson, initial investigations have revealed.
A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department’s forensics team discovered that the RTD’s parking lot fence, where the vehicles were parked, had been cut open.
The spokesman said the department has deployed its K9 unit to identify the source of the fire.
“Following initial investigations, we have classified this case as arson. The fence surrounding the parking lot is believed to have been cut.
“We are investigating the matter together with the police,” he added.
It is understood that the Fire and Rescue Department’s K9 unit arrived at the scene at 9.15am.
It was reported earlier that five vehicles, three of them belonging to RTD, were severely damaged in a blaze at about 2.30am.
The three damaged RTD vehicles consisted of two Toyota Fortuner and one Ford Ranger. The other two vehicles, both Volvo models, belonged to members of the public.
