KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya is ranked 55 in the Times Higher Education's (THE) 2019 Asia Pacific University Ranking, up six spots from 61 in 2018.
The ranking analyses more than 300 universities across 13 countries in East Asia, South East Asia and Oceania.
According to THE, the ranking uses the same performance indicators as the its 2019 World University Rankings, with the weightings adjusted to reflect the younger profile of some of the universities in the region.
In the World University Ranking, UM ranked between 301 and 350.
Singapore's National University (NUS) dropped to number 2 from the number 1 spot last year.
At number 1 is China's Tsinghua University.
Universiti Teknologi Petronas is ranked between 101 to 110, showing progress from last year where it was placed between 121 to 130.
