KOTA KINABALU: A 56-year-old participant of the Borneo International Marathon collapsed and died as he was finishing the race here, early today.
Bitah Sabenting, from Kota Belud, suddenly fell and lost consciousness as he was approaching the finish line at the Likas Stadium at 7.45am, Bernama reported.
“(He) was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, but was confirmed dead at 8.58am.
“His body was later sent to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem,” Kota Kinabalu police chief Assistant Commissioner Habibi Majinji said in a statement.
He added that the case has been classified as “sudden death.”
