NILAI: A restaurant in Kampung Baru near Broga here, which allegedly sells dog meat as part of its exotic menu, was raided by the authorities on Friday.
The restaurant's activities were uncovered after a police team raided it following a tip-off from members of the public.
During the raid at 4.30pm on Friday, police found several pieces of meat believed to be dog meat. They were found stored in the freezer in the restaurant’s kitchen.
Investigations, however, revealed that the restaurant had the necessary license to sell exotic foods.
The restaurant owner claimed that the canine meat was imported from abroad and only sold to customers who made advance reservations.
The meat is said to be consumed by customers to cure asthma.
Nilai district police Superintendent Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar said police received a report on the sale of dog meat at the restaurant and a team was immediately dispatched.
"We have conducted an investigation and submitted the case to the relevant department for further action," he said when contacted here today.
Negri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Wan Mat Wan Harun when contacted said the restaurant had a license to sell exotic food but dog meat was not on the list.
