KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu has refuted claims of a delay in the tabling of the Defence White Paper.
“Please be patient. The White Paper is not as simple as preparing school essays. We won’t delay tabling it. It will be done during this parliamentary session,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, here, today.
Mohamad was responding to claims by Sembrong member of parliament Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein that the tabling of the White Paper had been delayed six times this year.
“No, there is no delay. He should get his facts right.”
While debating the 2020 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Hishammuddin said Mohamad had promised to table the White Paper six times but it had yet to happen.
He also took a jibe at Mohamad, saying that “terrorists would not wait for the Defence White Paper” to be tabled.
The former Umno vice-president and defence minister also lamented there were no big initiatives or strategic plans for the country's defence or for the armed forces and veterans in Budget 2020.
Meanwhile, when asked on the criticism made by DAP central executive committee member Ronnie Liu on Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday, the Parti Amanah Negara president said that was Liu’s personal opinion.
“It is Pakatan Harapan that will determine its direction, not anyone else,” he added.
In a statement yesterday, Liu cautioned Dr Mahathir on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia making decisions which were not in line with Pakatan Harapan values.
