KUCHING: Students under the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) at SK Petra Jaya have been instructed to go under self-quarantine as part of precautionary measures against the Covid-19 outbreak.
Sarawak Education director Dr Azhar Ahmad in a statement said the order was made after a family member of one of the students was told to be in quarantine by the Kuching division public health office, yesterday.
The individual was found displaying fever symptoms after returning from Singapore.
“The student’s parents informed the school that their child will not able to attend school today.
“Based on that, the school decided to take extra precautionary measures following the Education Ministry’s advisory on coronavirus which was issued on Feb 4.
“The class where the student was attending will be cleaned and sanitised.
“The school had also checked on the students’ body temperature and told those who displayed fever symptoms to return home earlier today,” Azhar said.
He said the class would resume as usual tomorrow but temperature screening would continue.
