KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to officially open the 14th General Assembly of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sarawak at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

With the General Election drawing closer, observers, particularly delegates to the PBB assembly, expect the prime minister to touch on several issues especially concerning the looming election in his address tomorrow.

He is expected to urge the PBB and other Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to be ready to face the poll and not to take the voters for granted.

Secretary of the PBB Information and Publicity Committee Datuk Peter Minos expects the prime minister to call on the component parties, especially the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) and the United People's Party (UPP) to resolve whatever internal problems before the general election.

“The prime minister is also expected to touch on economic issues and advise the people not to be duped by the allegations hurled by the opposition,”said Minos.

Meanwhile, the PBB general assembly this time will also confirm Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg as the PBB president as well as confirm Datu Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan as the deputy presidents of the party.

Uggah and Awang Tengah are both deputy chief ministers of Sarawak.

PBB has so far been led by five presidents namely the late Tun Jugah Barieng, the late Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem and now Abang Johari. — BERNAMA
