SHAH ALAM: Pas members and supporters need to “act accordingly” in electing their assemblyman in the Sungai Kandis state by-election on Aug 4, says Selangor Pas election director Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir.
He said the voice of the opposition bloc needs to be strengthened in the state legislative assembly to ensure the state Pakatan Harapan government carries out its mandate more effectively.
“Pas is looking towards strengthening the opposition’s voice in the state assembly. The rakyat needs a strong opposition voice to check and balance the state administration.
“Pas members are persuaded to act accordingly in Sungai Kandis,” he told the NSTP via Whatsapp when asked to comment on a statement made by Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, the PKR candidate for the Sungai Kandis by-election.
At a press conference earlier, Zawawi claimed that the Pas grassroots in the constituency had secretly agreed to lend their support to help him win in the by-election.
Asked if Pas would openly pledge their support for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the by-election, Roslan said: “As we are not contesting, all (are) done behind closed doors.”
BN candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, meanwhile, had earlier claimed that Umno and Pas are standing in solidarity against Pakatan Harapan in the Sungai Kandis state seat by-election.
Lokman, who is also Umno supreme council member thanked the Islamist party for encouraging its members to vote for BN.
The Sungai Kandis by-election is being held following the death of it incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2.
Polling will take place on Aug 4.
