KUALA LUMPUR: As expected, Selangor and Penang will battle it out for top honours in the final of the men’s category at the AirAsia-BAM National Junior League (ABNJL) tomorrow (Sunday).
Selangor did not face any problems in brushing aside Johor’s challenge as they comfortably won 3-0, while Penang who are the top seeds also beat Kuala Lumpur by the same scoreline in semi-final action which took place at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here earlier today.
Selangor team manager, Kamarudin Ahmad, said he is satisfied with their team’s performance and one of the main reasons why they deserve to be in tomorrow’s final is because they have a team that is well balanced with strength in depth be it in singles or doubles.
“I have reminded our players that for tomorrow’s final against Penang they must bring their very best game down to the courts. We will be devising a game plan as best we can for the final.
“Our players’ line-up is based on the opposing team’s strengths and weaknesses. At the same time we really did not expect to advance so easily to the final but our target was to go all the way,” said Kamarudin.
In today’s (Saturday) semi-final action, Selangor who are seeded second won their first point after first men’s singles, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin defeated Wee Yee Liang, 21-9, 21-9, as men’s doubles, Mohd Nor Firdaus Azman-Wong Zheng Wei delivered their second point by despatching Tew Cheng Jie-Yap Shai Kuan, 21-15, 21-15.
Second singles player, Muhammad Shaqeem Eiman Syahyar sealed Selangor’s victory by overcoming Low Yi Sheng, 21-7, 21-17.
Meanwhile, Penang’s first point was contributed by first men’s singles, Low Eu Cong who beat Marcus Low 21-12, 21-12, while the second point came thanks to doubles Choong Hon Jian-Lee Ming Ze who upstaged Leong Jun Kai-Tan Kok Xian 21-15, 21-17.
