KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia failed to qualify for the AFC Futsal Championship quarter-finals following a 3-1 defeat to Bahrain in a Group A match in Taipei on Monday.
Bahrain finished second in Group A behind champions Vietnam while Taiwan and Malaysia finished third and fourth respectively.
Bahrain scored through Ahmed Abdulnabi (third and seventh minutes) and Mohamed Al Sandi (40th) while Syed Aizad Daniel Syed Nasir reduced the deficit for Malaysia in the 33rd minute.
National coach Chiew Chun Yong said: “Bahrain had a good start and scored early goals. We controlled the pace after the breather but Bahrain did well in defence.”
“We utilised the power play and scored a goal but luck was not on our side as Bahrain netted a third goal,” said Chun Yong.
