Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast until 10pm tonight

KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain and thunderstorms as well as strong winds are expected to lash major parts of Sabah and Sarawak, all of Perlis as well as several districts in the peninsula until 10pm tonight.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia), in a statement, said in addition to Labuan, affected areas in Sabah will include Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, as well as the state's west coast, namely Papar, Putatan, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu.

It said that in Sarawak, affected areas are Sibu (Selangau), Kapit (Kapit and Bukit Mabong), Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.

"In Kedah, heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to hit Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan and Pendang.

"In Perak, affected areas are Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hilir Perak and Muallim. Kuala Krai and Gua Musang are the areas affected in Kelantan while in Pahang, Lipis, Raub and Temerloh are affected," it said.

In Selangor, inclement weather is expected to hit Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Petaling.

In Negri Sembilan, similar weather will affect Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Jempol while Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat will be the affected areas in Johor.

METMalaysia said such warnings will be issued when thunderstorms with a rainfall intensity of more than 20ml are forecast for an hour or more.
