Missing white lines a concern for motorists

MOTORISTS plying the Semeling-Tupah trunk road in Yan district have voiced their concerns over the missing white lines in the middle of the road, which could pose a danger to road users, especially at night.

Norridzwan Abidin, 56, told Actionline that the white lines had been missing since last year.

“I have lodged a complaint with the Sungai Petani Public Works Department, but no action has been taken so far.

“The absence of white lines poses a danger to motorists, particularly those travelling at night.”

He urged the department to paint the white lines immediately as the road was used by students of Universiti Teknologi Mara campus in Merbok.

ACTIONLINE:

Kedah Public Works Department director Datuk Samsudin Abu Bakar said resurfacing work was carried on a stretch of the road to repair parts that were damaged.

As such, he said, the department could not immediately paint the white lines on the road since the asphalt needed time to harden.

“Usually, it takes more than two weeks for the asphalt to harden. Only then we can paint the lines.

“The resurfacing work was carried out to cover potholes and we need to wait for it to be completed before we can paint the white lines.”

Samsudin said the white lines would be painted in a couple of weeks.
