Danger of exposed manholes

Pedestrians in Jalan Tun Ismail in Kuantan, Pahang, are worried about injury if they accidentally step into manholes with missing covers here.

The exposed manholes on a sidewalk in front of a row of shoplots will be more dangerous to pedestrians at night.

The five manholes, measuring about 0.5m each, are on the sidewalk.

There is also a 0.3m-long hole on the sidewalk after a small concrete part of the sidewalk collapsed.

Muhammad Irfannizam Rozalin, 24, said the exposed drains had been there for some time, yet no action had been taken by the local council.

“It is dangerous for those who are using the pedestrian walk, especially at night.

“One might trip into the hole, which can easily fit a 4-year-old child,” said the security guard of a telecommunication shop.

ACTIONLINE: When contacted, a Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) spokesman said the matter would be looked into soon.

He said a team from MPK would be sent to inspect the uncovered manholes.
