KUALA LUMPUR: Residents in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, are fuming over indiscriminate dumping of rubbish in the area.
Those staying along Jalan Thamby Abdullah claimed that the issue had not been addressed by the authorities despite numerous complaints.
A resident, who wished to be known only as Sebastian, said the problem worsened with the influx of illegal immigrants into the area in the last few years.
He said Jalan Thamby Abdullah used to be spotless but the illegal immigrants had marred the beauty of the place with their poor hygiene.
“They come here and create problems for us.
“Garbage is strewn everywhere and there are signs of rat infestation.
“It is not healthy to stay here any more, but where can the residents go?”
He said some foreigners ran grocery shops nearby and threw rubbish in front of their premises.
“We are living in great discomfort with waste and rubbish filling our neighbourhood.”
He said city council workers collected the garbage regularly only to have the irresponsible traders littering the place again.
He said garbage was dumped even near the “Do Not Litter” signboard!
Residents hoped the authorities would take stringent action against the litterbugs.

A Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) spokesman said the management would look into the problem.
He said SWCorp would take action to keep Jalan Thamby Abdullah clean.
“We will inspect the street and take the next course of action.”
