Neighbours' wall dispute: Woman claims harassment

A DISPUTE between neighbours over a wall between their homes in Subang Jaya, Selangor, is expected to be a protracted struggle.

One of the residents, William Dennis, who has been living in the area for nearly 30 years, had complained to Actionline that the construction of the wall was against the local council’s rules.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) ordered his neighbour to tear down the wall.

However, a twist in the story emerged when his neighbour, a woman who wants to be known only as Chong, gave her side of the story to Actionline.

The single mother alleged that her neighbour had been harrassing her psychologically since she moved into the house 20 years ago.

Before building the wall, Chong said she installed blinds to prevent him from peeking into her house.

But, she claimed that it did not deter him from peeping.

Chong said she had lodged a police report as she feared for the safety of her family.

She said she had obtained a letter of support from the police for building the wall.

But, Chong said she was instructed by MPSJ again on Tuesday to tear down the wall.

A spokesman of MPSJ’s complaints unit said Chong had violated the council’s regulations by building the wall.

However, he said, the council would meet Chong soon as there was a support letter from police.

“The meeting is to get feedback from her. The final decision lies with the council’s building unit.”

He said the unit would try to help Chong by providing more information to the building unit for consideration.

“We are unable to guarantee anything as we can only provide suggestions to the building unit.

“But, the personal dispute is not under the jurisdiction of the council.”
