A CONCERNED resident claimed that a business operator had been storing cooking gas cylinders in an old building at Jalan Bukit Senjuang in Melaka.
The 50-year-old man, who preferred anonymity, claimed that such storage posed a danger to the public.
He said a learning centre for special needs children was located nearby.
“I always pass the area and see the operator storing cooking gas cylinders in the building. The building looks old and I worry about the risk the cylinders pose,” he added.
He said he had made several complaints to the local authorities but to no avail.

Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB) secretary Mohd Nasir Sheikh Salim said a team from the council had checked the premises.
Upon inspection, the team found that the operator had acquired valid licences from relevant authorities to store the items.
“However, we will check again with other relevant authorities to ensure the business operator follows the standard procedure when storing cooking gas tanks,” he said.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department director Kamarulzaman Malik Abdullah said there were risks if cooking gas cylinders were stored in large numbers.
But he added that if the business operator had valid licences and followed the standard operating procedures set by the local authorities and the state Fire and Rescue Department, it should not pose a problem.
“The operator must have a licence and follow the SOP when storing such items in a huge amount in a building. Nevertheless, we will still send our team to check on the premises.
“We need to ensure no incidences occur from negligence,” he added.
