Residents have nowhere to park

RESIDENTS of Sea Park Apartment in Jalan 21/13 in Petaling Jaya are at their wit’s end as they have nowhere to park their vehicles near their homes.

They have been barred from parking their vehicles in the designated space as the landowner staked a claim to the site this year.

The residents are appealing to the authorities to solve their long-standing parking issue.

Resident Annie Loo, who has lived in the apartment for more than 30 years, said she was frustrated as their parking lots were taken back by the landowner.

“The landowner has taken back the whole parking area and this has affected residents in the six apartment blocks.

“We are forced to park outside the apartment and this causes congestion. When we park outside, police will issue summonses and, on top of that, our cars will be clamped.

“We cannot afford to pay the fines,” said the 60-year-old housewife yesterday.

Loo said they faced the same problem in 2006, but it was resolved through a court ruling.

She said she and other residents took the issue to the court and won the case then.

“We were forced to pay RM5,000 for one parking bay. As that was too much, we brought the case to the court and won.”

She said the issue was raised again this year when the landowner took back the land.

She said the residents had questioned the right of the landowner to take back the land as it was not stated in any of the agreements when they purchased the property in 1980.

“He did not want to tell us. When we asked him for evidence of the land title, he said he didn’t keep them.”

Loo said the Shah Alam High Court had issued an order
to remove the vehicles immediately.

Some 60 people, including Loo, held a peaceful protest outside the apartment yesterday morning.

Sea Park Apartment management council chairman Lee Kok Joo said an appeal letter was sent to the Petaling Jaya City Council last week and that they were waiting for its response.

“We hope the local council can help us solve the issue. We don’t know where else to get help. We have tried so many ways, but to no avail,” he said.

A spokesman of the Petaling Jaya City Council said the council had received the appeal letter and investigation was ongoing.

“We have sent our team to the apartment to investigate. It may take a while as there are many processes to go through before the issue can be solved.

“We will also send a team from the engineering department and other departments to check.

“The council cannot make a decision now.”

Sea Park Apartment management supervisor, who wanted to be known only as Fathi, said an annual general meeting would be held next week to find a solution to the problem.
