Section 17 dangerous sidewalks

WHEELCHAIR users and other disabled people encounter many obstacles when navigating the sidewalks of Jalan 17/21, Section 17, in Petaling Jaya.

A resident, who wished to be identified as Timothy, claimed the sidewalks were riddled with cracks, making it difficult for all pedestrians and cyclists.

“The poles in the middle of the walkway are also obstacles,” he said.

Timothy said construction work on the sidewalks started a month ago.

“However, the contractors have caused more damage rather than improvement.

“There have been cases where the construction work has caused burst pipes and sidewalls to collapse.

“I feel the local authorities should monitor the work of the contractors.”

ACTIONLINE:

A Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) spokesman said the council was still upgrading the sidewalks.

The spokesman said the work to improve the sidewalks was set to be completed by mid-December.

“We are also upgrading the drainage system of Jalan 17/21 in Section 17, following frequent flash floods in the area,” said the spokesman, urging the public to be patient.
