A PEDESTRIAN walkway in Jalan Burmah has been turned into an illegal parking spaces, raising the ire of locals.
Checks by Actionline found that motorists had parked on the walkway to get to their favourite eateries nearby.
“Oh, I cannot park there? I didn’t know. I have been frequenting the restaurant nearby for years, and usually park my car there,” said a motorist who only wanted to be known as Rodriguez.
Unfortunately, such parking obstructs the free movement of pedestrians, especially the blind, the disabled and the elderly.

A Penang Island City Council spokesman said its enforcement unit would conduct more patrols in the area, and issue summonses to any motorists found parking their vehicles illegally.
“We will not hesitate to take action against errant motorists. Parking spots are available near the area, within a short walking distance from Jalan Burmah.”
