City Hall to act on potholes

Potholes in Lorong Syed Putra Kiri, Kuala Lumpur, are posing a threat to road users.

“Despite it being a small road, there is heavy traffic on a daily basis, especially on weekdays when parents come to fetch their children from SJK (C) Kuen Cheng 2.

“There is also a construction site down the road where lorries commute every day. This is aggravating the road condition,” says Alan Tan who lives nearby.

He said the road had been resurfaced several times but the potholes would reappear.

“The potholes keep reappearing after several weeks as the road is being used by many heavy vehicles. I hope the authorities can solve this issue permanently.”

ACTIONLINE:

A Kuala Lumpur City Hall spokesman said residents had lodged complaints about the potholes.

“We will send our officers to check the condition of the road as soon as possible,” he said, adding that action would be taken once they receive the assessment report.

With regard to the heavy vehicles which use the road frequently, he said DBKL did not have the authority to issue summonses to them.

“That is under the jurisdiction of the Land Public Transport Commission or Road Transport Department, not City Hall. We can only take action against the lorries if they make a mess,” he said..
