A MOTORIST who used the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) expressed shock that the toll charges for a trip from Saujana Putra toll to Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor, cost her RM8.90 instead of the usual fee of RM2.70.
Thilagavathy, from Banting, said she frequently used the SKVE to visit her parents’ home and paid only RM2.70 for toll.
“It is a weekly affair to visit my parents in Banting.
“However, yesterday, I was shocked when RM6.20 was deducted from the Touch ‘n Go card.”
She said she tried to get an explanation from the toll personnel, but was told that it was a glitch in the system.
“The employee could not explain the charges and I am puzzled as to why I was charged an extra RM6.20.”

A Touch ‘n Go spokesman said checks showed that the complainant had used two Touch ‘n Go cards to enter and exit the expressway, which explained the higher toll fee. She was charged for the entire stretch of SKVE, that is 51.7km, which is the maximum toll fee for that stretch.
“The complainant had driven from Saujana Putra to the Telok Panglima Garang toll exit, which cost only RM2.70.
“But because she used a different Touch ‘n Go card from the one she used when entering the highway, the system deducted the maximum toll fee of RM8.90.
“Although the complainant had travelled a shorter distance, her toll charges were calculated from the SKVE Air Hitam Toll Plaza to the last exit, which is the Pulau Indah toll exit,” she said, adding that the complainant could request a refund.
The spokesman said the complainant should have referred the matter to the highway concessionaire’s office instead of the toll personnel.
“Most toll plazas have a concessionaire office nearby. She could have referred to them to have her card rectified and get a refund.”
She said motorists must ensure that they tapped their Touch ‘n Go cards at the scan machines each time they passed the toll entrance.
“Even if the barrier is open, motorists must tap their card, otherwise maximum toll charges would be deducted from the card.”
She said the same procedure applied to Smart Tag users.
