14 Teras firms likely to seal RM2b DEALS

A total of RM2 billion worth of deals involving Bumiputera companies under the High-performing Bumiputera Companies (Teras) programme are expected to materialise at the two-day Memacu Agenda Bumiputera 2017 (Driving Bumiputera Agenda) exhibition.

Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) chief executive officer Datuk Husni Salleh said the deals would be with international companies across various industries, including food and beverage, manufacturing and logistics.

“We expect 14 companies under Teras to finalise agreements with potential partners over these two days, with deals worth about RM2 billion,” he said on the sidelines of the exhibition, here, yesterday.

The exhibition, which kicked off yesterday, is organised by Teraju.

Husni said one of the exhibition’s key agenda was to promote the success stories of initiatives under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Roadmap (BETR) 1.0.

“Six years after it was introduced, BETR 1.0 has made great strides in increasing Bumiputera success,”

He said the roadmap had created job opportunities, funds and investments worth RM94.31 billion.

“This success is the result of innovative programmes that are not entirely dependent on government funding, but more focused on leveraging these funds through a multiplying effect that extends to the beneficiaries.”

Husni said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak would launch BETR 2.0 today.

BETR 2.0 is the expansion of Bumiputera empowerment agenda through facilitative programmes outlined under the BETR 1.0.

It is the result of a BETR Lab discussion between Teraju and 640 representatives from 24 ministries held more than a week ago.

“We want the BETR 2.0 to be more inclusive, to benefit the Bumiputera as a whole,” added
Husni.
