June 23: Ringgit ends week easier against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed easier against the US dollar today on lack of buying interest as investors remained wary of commodity currencies amid weak crude oil prices.

At 6pm, the local note was quoted at 4.2865/2895 against the greenback from Thursday's close of 4.2855/2885.

A dealer said the slide in crude oil prices, which have dropped about 20 per cent since early this year, has weighed on commodity currencies, including the ringgit.

"The weak crude oil performance has sent investors to safe haven assets," he said.

At the close, the ringgit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies. It eased against the Singapore dollar to 3.0912/0944 from 3.0844/0870 on Thursday, and fell against the British pound to 5.4537/4584 from 5.4246/4292 yesterday. It depreciated against the euro to 4.7880/7918 from 4.7843/7885 on Thursday, but advanced against the yen to 3.8541/8578 from 3.8559/8604 on Thursday. – BERNAMA
