Digi widens coverage in rural areas; now at 80%

KOTA BARU: Digi Telecommunication Sdn Bhd has extended its rural areas coverage, especially in the East-Coast states, to 80 per cent since early this month.

Its Eastern Region head Alan Nui said the move would provide stronger indoor and wider outdoor coverage as well as better Internet capacity.

"We (Digi) have activated our 900MHz spectrum since July 1, in key market areas nationwide including those in the East Coast states included in Gua Musang, Kelantan; Maran, Bera, Dungun, Setiu and Hulu Terengganu (all in Terengganu) and Pekan, Raub, Rompin, Temerloh, and Kuantan in Pahang.

"The activation of 900MHz spectrum is definitely a game changer for us.

"Bringing improvements for both indoor and outdoor coverage and enables us to provide more digital services to our customers in these states," he told reporters at Digi's Hari Raya open house here today.

Alan said the 900MHz spectrum would also allows customers with new devices to enjoy a faster Internet experience through LTE-Advanced (LTE-A).

"Our LTE-A coverage in the East Coast states are currently sits at 18 per cent of populated areas.

"Leveraging on this strong infrastructure base, we hoped to bring a comprehensive range of internet and digital offerings under our newly launched Freedom to Internet proposition for our customers, ranging from music, video, gaming to roaming." he said.
