SERDANG: Proton Holdings Bhd and Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group (Geely) will jointly produce cars and the first is expected to hit the market by end-2018 or early 2019.
International Trade and Industry Minister II Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said that the two carmakers are in the midst of finetuning the production line for the new car at the existing car manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak.
He said that China's Zhejiang Geely Holdings is now actively engaged in automotive technology transfer, as agreed upon in the strategic partnership between the two carmakers.
"As early as next year or in early-2019, the production of the new car will begin, using Geely's technology," he said.
The second International Trade and Industry Minister also said that the government hopes that Proton will be able to widely export the cars made from this joint colloboration.
He was speaking after an Engagement Session at Universiti Putra Malaysia here today.
