SHAH ALAM: Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia (VPCM) has seen an increase in sales for the first half this year and expects continued momentum for 2017.
"There's definitely a jump in sales in the first half this year, in comparison to 2016 and we believe this is because of the better economic conditions this year," its director Erik Winter said without revealing how big of a jump the sales figure is.
"There were a lot of uncertainties last year and Malaysia was hit hard by currency volatility, but things have somewhat stabilised now and that's reflected in our sales figures," he told NST Business today on the sidelines of Volkswagen Fest 2017.
Winter said VPCM have more attractive campaigns planned for the rest of the year to appeal to potential customers.
"One that we are doing right now is to offer special low interest rates for potential customers so they too can experience how it is to be Volkswagen owner," said Winter.
"This campaign which was started in July, and will end in September has, so far, gained a lot of attention and we will roll out more campaigns like that in the future."
Winter was referring to the special low interest rate promotion for hire purchase loans, which is from as low as 0.28 per cent and 0.88 per cent per annum for the Vento and Passat variants, respectively.
Winter had earlier unveiled two new special edition models; the Jetta ALLSTAR and the 60th Merdeka Edition Beetle (MEB), to celebrate Malaysia's 60th year of independence.
Priced at RM109,990, the Jetta ALLSTAR comes with RM3,000 worth of exclusive accessories such as aluminium sports pedals, rear trunk spoiler, 'ALLSTAR' scuff plates, emblems and carpet mats.
The new edition comes in four colours namely; Candy White, Platinum Grey, Reflex Silver and Deep Black.
Similar to the iconic Herbie Beetle, the MEB is decked in livery, with number "60" splashed on its hood and livery.
Priced at RM136,888, only 16 exclusive units are available for purchase. All 16 units come with a five-year warranty, 60 months road tax and limited edition suitcase.
The Volkswagen Fest runs from the 11th to 13 August at the Setia City Convention Centre, Shah Alam.
Existing Volkswagen owners can enjoy a free 20-point check on their cars and a 15 per cent discount on parts and labour work.
