KUALA LUMPUR: Construction work to extend the Tropicana Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (TMC) in Kota Damansara is scheduled to begin in October, said TMC Life Sciences Bhd (TMCLS) Chairman Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Khalid Abdul Kadir.
He said the extension, spanning over 0.97 hectares would triple its current capacity from 200 beds to 600 beds.
"The RM300 million expansion work will make TMC one of the biggest private hospital in the region.
"With our growing team of specialist consultants and our focus on strong and sustainable financials, we are positive to continue to provide excellent care to our patients," he told reporters at the groundbreaking ceremony for the hospital’s new extension here today.
The present TMC building occupies 0.64 hectares on a 2.42 hectare plot of land.
Projected to be completed by the second half of year 2020, Dr Khalid said the expansion entailed the construction of an additional 110 specialist clinics, five operating theatres and 1,100 parking lots.
He said revenue from the new extended block would be realised in 2022, two years after full operations.
For the third quarter ended May 31, 2017, TMCLS recorded RM40.7 million in revenue and a pre-tax profit of RM8 million, a growth of 17 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively, compared with the same quarter a year ago.
Meanwhile TMCLS Group Chief Corporate Officer and TMC Chief Executive Officer Wan Nadiah Wan Mohd Abdullah said the group was also venturing into a new, first-of-its kind integrated medical hub - Thomson Iskandar in Johor, costing some RM1.2 billion (excluding land cost).
"The medical hub is to be developed as part of the proposed Vantage Bay Healthcare City in Johor Bahru and we are now awaiting approval. The construction is expected to commence by year-end.
"Thomson Iskandar is expected to be completed in the second half of 2020 and will house a 500-bed tertiary hospital, specialist medical suites and related health and wellness facilities," added Wan Nadiah.
