Lazada taps into Petronas Dagangan retail network

KUALA LUMPUR: Southeast Asia’s leading e-commerce platform, Lazada Malaysia is set to enlarge its “offline” presence through its collaboration with Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) as it taps into the latter’s extensive network of petrol stations.

The Alibaba-backed e-retailer today signed a strategic collaboration with PDB on the pick-up and drop-off services for items purchased via Lazada at nine Petronas service stations in the Klang Valley, during the month-long Online Revolution campaign.

“This is the trial run and it is for the convenience of the customers, especially for those areas where Pos Malaysia Bhd or GD Express Sdn Bhd might not be around...but a Petronas station would,” said Lazada Malaysia chief executive officer Hans-Peter Ressel during the partnership launch.

“We have already had the soft launch for this and the outcome has been favourable,” he said.

“The trial run is during the campaign and we are targeting to increase the number of stations to 50 by the end of the year.

“If successful, this aspect of the collaboration could also go beyond the campaign,” he added.

The nine petrol stations where this service is now available are Putra Bistari, Seksyen 26 Shah Alam, Kepong Industrial Park, Seksyen 2 Wangsa Maju, Taman Dagang, Jalan Segambut, 5.5km Cheras, Alam Damai and Bandar Puteri Puchong.

PDB currently operates a network of more than 900 service stations nationwide.

In conjunction with Lazada’s Online Revolution campaign which will kick off November 11, PDB will widen the offerings with discounts on fuel gift card alongside giveaway of two million Lazada’s discount voucher during the mega sale.

Customers can purchase Petronas Fuel Gift Cards worth RM100 at a discounted rate of RM95, which can also be used for purchase of other items at Petronas’ Kedai Mesra including F1 merchandise.

Customers who fuel up a minimum of RM50 at any Petronas stations from now until 20 November will also receive a 12 per cent Lazada discount voucher, which carries a maximum redemption value of RM15.

“This is a winning collaboration for Lazada and PDB that benefit the consumers as we strive to provide added convenience, choice and value.

Brands such as PDB recognizes the strategic importance of e-commerce in Malaysia and we look forward to working with PDB in growing its online presence especially as we gear towards our biggest campaign of the year, the Online Revolution,” said Ressel.
